Garstang and District Children’s Festival 29th May 2017

Welcome to the 2017 festival! It is a day the festival committee are truly proud to be a part of as it is one of the longest events still running in Garstang.  If you are new to the town this is one day in the calendar you wouldn’t want to miss.

We are really pleased that we continue to welcome new members to our committee which will certainly ensure that we keep moving forward. Thanks to Hannah Slater who is new this year and will be leading the Morris dancers with her team. Again, the Morris dancers are unique, as in most towns and villages the dancers are adults – not ours – they are all children from the town, which fits perfectly with the fact that this is a Children’s festival.

I would just like to acknowledge that the committee lost one of our festival members last year. Tragically Mark Pye passed away in December. Mark was a fabulous person to have around on the day assisting with the tableaux and the parade making sure it all ran smoothly and we will miss him dearly. I must also mention our President’s wife, Jean Melling, who passed away earlier this year. Jean never failed to appear every year to undertake the judging of the tableaux with her husband Bill.

So moving onto the big day itself, the festival committee are now doing the final preparations for the day, and the many people preparing tableaux are also in full flow so that everything should be perfect on the 29th May. The only thing we can’t control is the weather, so fingers crossed for a stunning sunny day just like last year!

We hope to see you there. Let’s make it a great day together and you can keep up to date with all of our news on our Facebook page and twitter @GarstangCF.

Best wishes,

Julie Bell
