Garstang and District Children's Festival

Festival Costs

For the first time last year we included information in the booklet about the finances of the Festival to give everyone an understanding of where our money goes, and more importantly where it comes from.
The feedback we received about this information was fantastic, so much so that we have decided to do it again this year only this time in a little more detail! We have compared last year’s costs (2011) with the previous year (2010) and have also included the costs from 10 years ago (2000) which shows how inflation affects us.
If we have a little more detailed look at last year; firstly where the money goes -
Processions – this includes materials for the Queen, floats, Morris Dancers, £1 for each child in each procession, and a donation to St John’s Ambulance
Bands – the processions wouldn’t be the same without them, and I hope you agree with the committee, worth every penny!
Equipment – all sorts of things like the PA system, toilet hire, generator hire, etc. which are needed but not always noticed.
Insurance, Printing, etc. – the insurance and administration costs, including the printing of this booklet, which is delivered free of charge to all households in the area.
Sports, Field, and Refreshments – this covers the activities on the field in the afternoon including the children’s entertainment, refreshment costs, cash sports prizes, etc.
I hope that you can see that money is not wasted, and that no-one receives any expenses.
And now let’s have a look at where the money comes from, all of which comes directly from the residents and businesses of Garstang and District.
Business Donations – local businesses continue to donate to the Festival in such a fantastic way. If you have a business and are thinking of joining all the others that support us, don’t forget the free advertising in this booklet!
House to House Collections – incredibly these increased which is entirely due to the ‘army’ of collectors.
Street Collections – even though it was a wet and miserable weather for the morning procession, the collection was remarkably similar to the previous year.
Refreshment Sales – lower than previous which reflects the weather on the day.

I hope that you have found this explanation informative, and to all of you, whether business, resident, or someone who throws money in the trailer at the end of the procession, we owe a debt of gratitude and many, many thanks for your continued support. Without your money the Festival can’t happen, so please give as generously as you can.
